Description
This is what a river of lava looks like after it has cooled and hardened. This image shows a the path of a river of pahoehoe flow from the Pu'u O'o crater of Kilaeua volcano to the ocean on the Big Island, in Hawai'i. This flow occurred during the 1990s. The hardened lava preserves the slow ripples of the viscous lava that formed during its downward path from the pali. The steam cloud of the ocean entry is visible in the distance.

Thank you Sarah. It is both daunting and amazing to visit this area. Very much worth it though.
