Description
This plant is the mimosa pudica, a herb of the pea family. In Hawai'i it is known as Sleepy Grass or Sleeping Grass, as when touched, the leaves fold up, as if they are going to sleep. It is found all over the world, but our varieties came from Central America. It has use as a medicinal plant in ancient times and in many areas of the world today. It mainly spreads with underground runners, but also produces the dainty, firecracker-like flower as in this image, which then produce seeds.
