This exotic beauty is the white lilikoi flower. It is also known as a passion fruit flower and is one of the varieties of passiflora edulus. The plant is a vine, which is one of the fastest growing plants on earth, sometimes growing 20 feet or more a year. The flowers last only a single day and can have a wonderful, sweet fragrance. The round fruit that is produced is one of the most delicious in the world (in my opinon!). The interior of the fruit is filled with a viscous pulp, loaded with small black seeds that can be eaten. The flavor is like no other, but has a citrus-like quality. The fruit is a high source of vitamin C. The first time I saw a liliko'i flower I could not believe it was real (on Maui many years ago on my first trip to the Islands). The first time I ate one, they became an instant passionate obcession! I grow three different edible varities in my yard and wait the rippening of the fruit with great anticipation. Some varities of passiflora are native to portion...
As a fine-art photographer of many years (initially in black and white large format film), my purpose is to capture and share the incredible beauty in our world. I have a passion for travel and photographing the many places I have been fortunate to explore. I am enthralled by both the grand scene of a live volcano or brilliant sunrise and the amazing detail and design of each tiny part of a flower. There is beauty and design in everything around us and the goal of my work is to share that and encourage everyone to look closely and take the time to see what is before us all.
