Description
Waiānuenue Falls on Hawai'i Island is an iconic Hawaiian waterfall. The falls is also known as Rainbow Falls. The name Waiānuenue is derived from two Hawaiian words; 'wai' means water and 'ānuenue' means rainbow. When the falls plummets to the pool below a fine mist rises from the surface of the pool. On a sunny day, the sun can hit the mist causing rainbows to form.
On this day, the falls forms delicate ribbons plunging from the lava rock channel to the pool. I have seen this falls be a raging torrect of water 20 times wider than water here, thundering over the edge on the waters rush to the sea.
