While out working in my yard, I happened to turn over the leaves of a Hawaiian native groundcover named Nanea. This plant has yellow flowers and is a member of the pea family. Ancient Hawaiians used the plant medicinally for treatment of boils and other skin disorders. As with all members of the pea family, this plant enriches the soil by fixing nitrogen.
I was startled to see that the underside of this one was brilliant purple. Lately, I have found hearts in nature everywhere.
