Description
Along the very steep trail down to Pololū Beach, you catch glimpses of the beauty of this beach and the coastline after the beach. This beach is in front of the Pololū Valley, one of the Seven Sacred Valleys that stretch around the very north end of the Big Island. It is possible to hike from this beach to Waipio on the Awini Trail, but this is a treacherous, not-maintained trail through dense jungle. The hike can take 4 days or more to complete and is only for the most experienced hikers of steep, muddy tropical forest and terrain. The hike down to the first beach on the Hawi side is only 0.6 miles (or approximately 420 feet). While short, it is very steep and be very slippery when rains have made the trail muddy. Both the steep descent and ascent are very much worth it once you get to the beautiful, black rock beach.

Incredible image of a gorgeous coastline. That trail sounds way above my pay grade, though! L/F
Heidi Fickinger replied:
One of my favorite places on the Island Jane. The trail back up is very steep though! Aloha
