Description
This ancient native mamane tree, bent and twisted by untold years of harsh winds, bright, sparkling sunshine, freezing nights and winter snowstorms, has borne witness to countless natural events. On this cold night, the mamane seems to dance under the diamond sparkle of countless stars, while at its feet, golden grasses ripple in the wind blowing down from the summit of Mauna Kea.

Amazing it could have even grown in those harsh conditions. This is so beautiful, and I can see the dance -- it was the first thing I thought of when I saw this wonderful tree. L/F Featured in Hawaiiana. Aloha nui!

Wow! Spectacular! I have yet to accomplish a night shot like this. I tried once but it was a disaster!
Heidi Fickinger replied:
Thank you Toni. I am still not very good at this type of photography. It is part pre-scouting, part technique and part luck. Focusing can be very tricky. Helps to have a partner that lights the foreground subject.
