Description
This is an image taken of South Point, the southern-most point of land in the United States and in Hawai'i. Ka Lae is the name of the point in Hawaiian. It is believed that the first Polynesians to arrive in the Hawaiian Islands disembarked here at Ka Lae somewhere between 400 and 800 A.D. With the ruins of heiau (temples), fishing shrines and other cultural vestiges found here its no wonder why this entire southern tip has been registered as a National Historical Landmark. The color of the crystal clear sea on the lee side of the point is heavenly. Just around the northern side of the point, crashing waves pound the lava rocks. One of the most beautiful places on the Big Island.

Fascinating how the water on the other side of the point is choppy and the currents are so different. The water in the foreground is utterly gorgeous with its clarity and color. Such a beautiful capture! Featured in Hawaiiana. Aloha nui.

Yes, Ka Lae has has the two faces of Janus - one that can rage and one calm and peaceful. Both equally beautiful - and the color of the water!! One of the best places to spearfish on the Island. Mahalo nui loa for featuring this image, Jane.

Thank you so very much. One of my favorite places because of the colors of the water.
