Description
On the Island of Hawai'i, in the Waimea or Kamulea district, at the base of Mountain Kea, is the home of the huge Parker Ranch. It is what we call Paniolo Country, Hawaiian land of cowboys. When the Ranch was founded, cowboys from Mexico were brought to the Island to herd and take care of the cattle in the 1830s. Mexican cowboys are known as 'vaqueros', which morphed into 'paniolos' here in Hawai'i. The beauty of the wide open spaces is magnificent.
