Description
One of the most amazing sights to see on the Big Island is to see the shadow of Mauna Kea sunset from the summit of the mauna. The height of the mountain is so great (over 13,000 feet above sea level) the shadow rises over the sea as the sun sinks. Even more amazing is when the moon rises in its shadow, Again, because of the height of the mountain, you would swear the you are watching the moon rise from far below your position. It is a truly surrealistic sight to witness.
