Description
Nearly every afternoon a river of marine fog slowly flows up the slopes of Mauna Kea on the Big Island. This phenomenon happens when heavy, dry, cold air from the top of the Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa volcanoes flows down their slopes and meets warm, moist air rising from the sea. It is a beautiful and mesmerizing sight to see as the foggy river slowly covers the landscape below and begins to climb higher and higher.
