Description
For me, one of the most beautiful places in Hawai'i is Ka Lae (known in English as South Point). Ka Lae is the place where the ancient Hawaiians first made landfall in Hawai'i. Ka Lae is a very spiritual place for Hawaiians. It is a protected area, where no disturbance of artifacts are allowed. The waters close offshore to the cliffs seen in this photo drop to great depths and so is one of the favorite fishing spots for local fishermen to catch ulua and ahi. Just after sunrise, as single dolphin leaped out of the water over and over in front of me, landing with a 'slap' that carried to my ears even though it was hundreds of yards offshore.

Thank you very much Mary. This is on the Island of Hawai'i Mary. It is the area that was the first known landing in Hawai'i of the Ancient Hawaiians.

Nice subtle color in that sky, and I love the ocean of seaside grass. I imagine it sounds wonderful here on a windy day!
Heidi Fickinger replied:
Many thanks William. This place is always windy. This area has the only windmill electricity farm on the Island. The sounds of the rustling grasses when they are dried is wonderful.
